Time to Pivot

With the momentum from the festival, ALOC saw an opportunity to expand the app’s use beyond a single event. Just a week after the festival wrapped up, the team seamlessly transitioned the app to highlight the wide range of classes, exhibitions, and community events ALOC is known for.

The original film festival content was simply hidden—ready to be reactivated for future events—demonstrating just how flexible and easy the FER platform is to manage.

All of this was done by their great marketing team without the need to call in a developer!

Promoting First Fridays

One of ALOC’s signature monthly events is First Fridays, held—yes, you guessed it—on the first Friday of every month. These gatherings are all about connecting the community with local artists, a key part of ALOC’s mission.

To help spread the word, ALOC used FER’s Announcement Tool to send timely push notifications directly to users’ phones. The result? Increased awareness, better attendance, and deeper community engagement.

Building Excitement In Their Brand

The Art League of Ocean City (ALOC) was just six weeks away from hosting one of its premier events—the Ocean City Film Festival—when they decided to launch their app using the FindEngageReward (FER) platform.

Despite the tight timeline, the ALOC and FER teams worked closely to create and roll out a fully functional app that saw over 400 downloads leading up to the festival. It was a fast and focused launch that made an immediate impact.

ALOC wanted a more personal and effective way to stay connected with their audience. While they already had a mobile-friendly website, they felt an app offered a more intuitive, engaging experience.
 
The FER platform gave them just that—with full control to update content themselves. Since launching, they’re now approaching 500 downloads and counting.

What the App Helps Communicate


With the FER app, ALOC can now easily inform the community about:

  • Upcoming classes and how to register

  • Volunteer opportunities and sign-up info

  • Event listings with times and locations

  • Their newsletter—presented in an engaging format

  • Donation opportunities

  • All of their gallery locations and hours

It’s a one-stop resource for staying connected with Ocean City’s creative pulse.

What’s Next for ALOC?

ALOC is just getting started. By taking a crawl, walk, run approach, they’ve laid the foundation for even greater engagement in the future.

In early planning sessions, the team brainstormed a wide range of creative ideas for using the app to deepen community involvement. Here are a few that stood out:

  • Scavenger hunts in and around ALOC locations

  • Common critiques, where visitors can share emotional responses to artworks

  • Social media integration featuring painted electric boxes and fire hydrants

  • A “Trail of Art” with geo-cached locations around the city

  • Polls and surveys to collect member feedback and ideas
     

(While ALOC opted not to gamify these experiences, the FER platform does support point systems and rewards—making it easy to add down the road.)

 

The collaboration between ALOC and FindEngageReward is a powerful example of how arts organizations can evolve with technology—without losing their heart. The app has become more than just a tool; it’s a bridge between artists and the community.
